Hanging Out at Pioneer Days..........

A couple of weekends ago, we headed out to Pioneer Days in Gnadenhutten. It's held the first weekend in August out at the historical museum and the grounds there. I used to do the craft show out there several years ago. So we headed out to watch the crock auction and wonder through the encampment. Homemade beansoup is made in a big black kettle over and open fire but I didn't eat any this year. Jadyn was amazed by the fox pelt hanging in front of one of the encampments and I loved the hanging lantern........

Barry Lentz of Whitewoman pottery located in Coshocton, OH has been making the crocks for the crock auction since 1995. Every year they make 10 limited edition crocks that are auctioned off to raise money for the museum. I was the one responsible for asking him to make the crocks and this has become a very good fundraiser for the Historical Society. All proceeds go back to the museum so it's for a very good cause. =D Here's one of the former Pioneer Days princesses holding the #1 crock..........

The memorial monument out there has been repaired and cleaned this past summer too! I almost didn't recognize it when i saw it! It used to be grey and dark and now it's a light cream and clean! lol I have a picture of my daughter standing in front of it when she was little, so I just had to take a picture of my granddaughter standing in front of it too.............flashback!

Inside the museum are many old artifacts and documents. I just love looking at the way that they used to write. Their penmanship was amazing.....

And then there's this lifesize replica of David Zeisberger that sits inside the museum. This guy has scared several visitors because he looks so darn real sitting there! LOL There are also two lifesize Indians, but there was no way that Jadyn would stand beside them because she was scared to death of them.....she thought they were real!

Silent Flight Tag on eBay!

I've listed another in my series of hand made hang tags. This is the one that I have entitled "Silent Flight". Just imagine how quietly they would glide over that marsh on a moonlit night? We all know how quietly those bats can zip around..........*shiver*

The twisted wire hangers are hand made by me and I bend them into the shape of stars to match the ones that I hand stitch on with cream colored quilter's thread, which I then coffee stain to make them look more aged. I also use vintage buttons that I try very hard to match up with the looks of the prints that I choose.

I have to share this story about an email that I received through eBay about one of my tag auctions. The sender was not anyone that I knew but her question was, "Is this price for just ONE tag?" Well.........I replied back that it was. I tried to explain to her how many steps go into creating just that one tag. Evidently this person was not an artist or she would have never asked that question.............=D
